Debbie and Tom McKinsey, a terrific young couple, who bought our building last year are now open for business. The Gathering Place located at 3459 Depew Avenue, Port Charlotte, FL is now open.  An adult day care facility it offers a fulltime nurse (Debbie) and lots of thoughtful perks to its clients, i.e., haircuts, balanced lunches, a lovely outdoor patio, movies, and much more. If you know of anyone with this need, I can promise you that you will not find a better venue anywhere locally. Please support this nice couple and know your loved one is being cared for as you would like them to be. David Wilson for VIP of CC
OLD Building – NEW LIFE ! I am very happy to announce that our old building on Depew Avenue is brimming with new life!
At our Board meeting, it was determined that we would publicize our hours as being from 10AM to 2PM, Monday through Friday. We will seek and train volunteers for the days that Krystal will not be in the office. Other times will be available by appointment. The Board is very excited about the possibilities of expanding services to low vision citizens of Charlotte County with this joint undertaking. There is an Independent Living Class being offered right now at Southport Square, and we have already setup the next class which will be held at the Cultural Center of Port Charlotte on Thursdays, from 10AM to 1PM, beginning June 22nd, 2017 and running through August 10th. To sign up for this class, please call LoM at their Charlotte Office, (941) 764-0316. Having access to the experts available from LoM it is clear that there will be an expansion of areas in which we can help the local community with their needs. The VIP of CC will continue to do outreach in the community showcasing our joint services and will continue to support and promote the Peer Group as well as locate and provide assistive technologies whenever possible. We wish to sincerely thank LoM for providing Krystal to us and for their expertise in case management, IT and various other areas which they so generously offer to us. You can still reach The Visually Impaired Persons of Charlotte County at our number, (941) 625-8501. Now that the VIP of CC is a totally volunteer organization it has been difficult to staff the office. We are now working in a joint effort with the Lighthouse of Manasota (LoM) who is providing us with an employee to work Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10 am to 2 pm answering phones for us.
